There are dozens of examples of beautiful & safe rail-trail transit lines throughout the world. Pictured here is one Parisians enjoy. Atlanta expects MARTA to apply the best design elements when introducing rail to the 22-mile BeltLine corridor. The first 1.4 miles of BeltLine rail is included in More MARTA’s Streetcar East extension – one of the city’s top transit priorities, and scheduled to be operational by 2028.

Build BeltLine rail for a more equitable Atlanta.

BeltLine Rail Now is a grassroots advocacy organization that educates, organizes, and mobilizes the people of Atlanta in support of the equitable and urgent delivery of light rail on the BeltLine. We build partnerships and demand accountability to aid MARTA and Atlanta BeltLine Inc. in fulfilling the City of Atlanta’s commitment to the complete BeltLine vision.

MARTA and the City of Atlanta prioritize transit projects competing for the half-penny sales tax approved in 2016. BeltLine Rail Now believes the following should guide their priorities and funding decisions.

  • The current More MARTA timeline is untenable. The project must be accelerated to leverage transit to fight displacement, promote affordable housing, and provide greater benefits to ALL of our city’s residents.

  • The South and West Side rail constructions are of the highest priority. These segments of BeltLine rail will provide critical accessibility to communities where car ownership is the lowest and dependency on public transit is the highest.

  • Public engagement is a critical measure of success. Decision-makers are obligated to engage with the public at every opportunity, build confidence, and ensure that the project fully aligns with the communities served.

The time to build rail on the BeltLine is NOW.
